Much great inventing done since – mostly by people who are long gone.
Every day some 12-yr. old prodigy invents game-changer app., makes a billion; same day 200 million 12-yr. olds play soccer, chat with friends, get respectable grades. Can’t we all outsmart 12-yr. olds?
Every NEW thing comes about because someone tried something. Lightning bolt in their dream, or just some little thing they tried that seemed to work, solved a problem – and someone said to themselves, “that’s interesting”.
3M engineer, for his choir, needed to stop losing his place. Slips of paper, a mild adhesive. Not trying to solve world peace. He wasn’t 12. Solving an annoying problem with his own expertise. No Hawking. Not Einstein. Obscure guy with fingerprints on the Post-it Notes patent.
Founder of POF.com (Plentyoffish) dating site built it on his laptop. He was bored, wanted to find a girlfriend. Did everything himself until he needed help. Sold it for $800 million. Just like the sticky note, isn’t it? Solve a problem a new way – if it works the world beats a path to your door. And you don’t have to be 12.
Who says you can’t do anything unique, who says your ideas don’t have merit, who says you can’t, who says the next thing you try won’t work?
