LIFE IS A HUMAN RACE
Wednesday Nov. 22, 2017
Every day, every sprint, begins at a starting line. Might be a calendar date, might be a columnar pad – either way, it all starts at zero …
You might ask, “what?”
Every January 1st we all start at zero. Zero income, zero productivity, zero pounds lost, zero accomplishments – you get the picture. Really, any date is arbitrary. Every day starts the same way. Income, expenses, assets, liabilities – all at zero. Hold on now … that can’t be right?? What we had before midnight, we still have. What we owed before midnight, we still owe. Yes, we do because we choose to carry those forward. We carry them forward – some people see that structure as a foundation, others see it as weighty luggage.
We have trappings of homes, cars, things. We have structure in our lives like school, employment, organizations and families. Can we see past those trappings, to see each morning we are either a lion or a gazelle. We are surviving till tomorrow when once again, we start at zero.
Every day, a new baby starts at zero
Every day, someone dies – they are at zero too.
Tonight, no matter how great a day we might have, we go to bed and wake up again, at zero.
“Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up, it knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn’t matter whether you’re the lion or the gazelle – when the sun comes up, you’d better be running.” – Christopher McDougall.
