BIG THANKS DAY
Thursday Nov. 27, 2014
Lots to be thankful for, and about. Best of times, best of things – best of anything, is worth appreciating.
Americans are doing feasting and giving thanks today – it is their Thanksgiving Day, so they are on-holiday and merry-making, folks are focused on turkey …
But having done all that. Still it seems a day for giving thanks. Thanks for great weather. Thanks for a great holiday. Thanks for clear-sky today (see ‘morning walk’ below). Thanks for great sights, great meals and great company. And great sunscreen.
For those who’ve not been to Maui, a few food suggestions and thanks to chefs and servers for yesterday – fantastic food day – started with that apple Danish pastry at the Fairmont, lunch at Kihei Café (pork fried rice with eggs on top; just ask for a #10) , and then an improvised progressive dinner at the Shops of Wailea, combing favourites from three restaurants: appetizer (mussels) at Longhi’s, dinner (filet mignon with broiled tomatoes) at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, desert (key lime pie) at Tommy Bahama’s Café. Three reservations, three waiters, three bills – all within 100 yards.
Must sleep …

morning walk: 22C / 72F, walked very few steps this morning, but drove a long way; a ritual pilgrimage of sorts: up at 3:45, departed at 4:00 … for a parking lot by a park in Kula; in the dark, at 4:45, for an hour of darkness (cloudless!), look up, drink in the moonless sky in a place without light pollution – the sky is awesome, silence, then roosters crowing, and witnessing dawn arrive. Back now. Sleep soon …

Hi Mark – Enjoy the last three days of warmth. It is supposed to get cold (-20c) and snowy over the remainder of the week! Aloha, MK, Calgary, AB
Sorry, Mark, the whales are still vacationing in Monterey Bay. Saw 8-10 humpbacks out there last Sunday. According to the Aquarium, whale songs in the bay here can be heard by whales 2,400 miles away in Hawaii! (If there are any) Have fun. Don't pretend to die, MO, Monterey, CA
