NOISE REPLACES THOUGHT
Wednesday Nov. 16, 2016
Doesn’t shine light on anything but ‘watching politics and global upheaval’ – but would media experts be doing this circus-like whirling dervish distraction if they’d gotten their election call right?
They said: Clinton for sure. But no, it was Donald, by a nose. Pick your winner. Or loser. They look alike. Homeless people do too. Poverty looks the same. Refugees, all running from bombs. Starvation looks the same. Disease too. But who is watching?
So much noise in recent days – not just American media, it seems media-types and politicos the world over are accelerating speculation of every fear imaginable about every winner’s failing, every loser’s shortcomings. Racist talk, hate talk – isn’t rampant or everywhere, or is it? Hiding it, exposing, seems the new sport of media now that U.S. elections are over. One might think nothing else is happening the world except Washington minutia.
Has social media replaced communication – or is it an evolution of communication? I’ve always thought that ‘evolution’ of anything meant an improvement, growth, sophistication – whether it was the progress of one species to another over time, processes and organizations, and sometimes people actually changing.
After a while, they all look alike – seems they’ve replaced feeling, empathy, understanding – replaced it with noise.
