Grieving loss of our expectations – feeling sad about things we expected would happen that no longer can.
We see this when someone loses a marriage or a business, or experiences the death of a child or spouse, because something that could have and likely would have unfolded as predicted, as planned, and as expected simply vanishes in a moment … .
“Happiness is a choice, not a result. Nothing will make you happy until you choose to be happy. No person will make you happy unless you decide to be happy. Your happiness will not come to you. It can only come from you.” — Ralph Marston
Opportunity is in the air supply — it’s like radio waves. We know they are there, if we turn on the radio and start surfing we find dozens of stations. If we turn it off, we hear none of them. Opportunity is like that, in my view, that seeing opportunities is a function of being awake, tuned-in, and available.
Now, available — that’s a tricky word. Most days, most of us are mired in our day, working through what we didn’t finish yesterday, and scarcely having time to think about tomorrow. Lives, families, work, ‘head stuff’, and financial pressures together with ‘being aware in the world’ of more than ever from every streaming source of current events, culture, sports, disasters, politics, and Trump-stupidity-du-jour put our heads down/butts up when it comes to opportunities whizzing by us at the speed of those radio waves. We need to put up our antennae to catch more.
We need a big sign on our forehead that says, “I AM OPEN FOR BUSINESS, I am receptive to ideas and inspiration.”
Reader feedback:
Mondays are Mondays, I work Sundays for 14 years you will expect a good uneventful pretty Mondays... never happened! Lol, AG, Cancun, Mex.
After your Mark Musing and Monday Morning Minute today I thought you would like this: "A river cuts through rock, not because of its power but because of its persistence." - Jim Watkins. You have likely seen this quote a dozen or more times. I sent it because I find it in-line with the theme of both your written offerings today. Keep up the daily routine. Mark Musings and coffee, are as morning to me, as tea and crumpets to the English. My morning just does not get underway until the I have read Mark Musings with coffee in hand. Your Musings are my morning launch pad, RT, White Rock, BC
Well said, Mark! We can never have a better past. Reflection is preferred over regrets. Looking forward through the windshield vs. the rear view mirror, BD, Calgary, AB
You should be so lucky if you have ‘who to call’... :), AG, Cancun, Mex
