LOOKING FOR OPPORTUNITIES
Sunday, November 7, 2021
I saw a curious posting the other day – I’ve seen many like it before – on LinkedIn.
It said, ‘looking for opportunities.’
This, for me, begs these questions:
- What does opportunity look like?
- Would you know one if you saw one?
And I’m not taking shots at that person.
Clearly, they’re looking for a new job – and I’m using their words to take us down a different thought path.
I’ve been through many group-think exercises in workshops over the years, wrestling with both personal and corporate planning – the SWOT analysis-think to the point of triggering a gag reflex.
Opportunities are like air.
I see people keen to resume the networking-event mentality, as if wine-infused cocktail party chatter will yield them, or they’ve joined breakfast-club or lunch-club formalities of ‘bringing a lead to share.’
Been there, done that, done with that!
Opportunities have been showing up more lately.
I didn’t take a course or read a tip-book, didn’t sign up for some SEO-magic course, nor hired a personal trainer.
I didn’t do any of that.
I give plenty of credit to a new influence in my life – true; she’s become my cheerleader and ‘someone to bounce ideas off,’ because considerable acclaim is due to her for making a daily contribution to my confidence and mindset, to focus more on dreaming large and going good …
And I’ll give credit to some re-inspiration to bring some old tools out of my bag; I’ve been writing and talking about it [ I did a talk on OPPORTUNITY ].
That matters too.
Keeping mouth shut more and ears open more helps too.
And laughter helps.
