FINAL JEOPARDY!

Monday, November 9, 2020

To all Jeopardy! watchers, and my fellow Alex Trebek fans, I’m sorry for your loss.

Six years ago, I lost my dear friend Gary Lloyd to pancreatic cancer – though his journey from  ‘Stage 4 diagnosis’ to death was about eight months, it’s heartening Alex Trebek survived more than double that.

Most remarkable about the Jeopardy! game show is the degree to which it has educated audiences (mostly American) about Canadian history and geography. Alex Trebek was the cause/influence behind that, so Canadians should be grateful for that role he played. Both before and after his diagnosis, he represented himself in a way that ought to make all Canadians proud and grateful. His Order of Canada citation stated, "for his iconic achievements in television and for his promotion of learning, notably as a champion for geographical literacy.”
