THOUGHT TRAIN DERAILMENT
Sunday, October 3, 2021
The following day, I walked the same route, hoping my sights/surroundings might re-start that thought train, the one that left the station the day before …
You see, I was walking the other day – embarking on my morning loop, and I turned around. An idea came into my head that compelled me to turn around and race back to my keyboard. By the time I got home a dozen intervening matters (laundry to load, newspapers to read, coffee to brew, briefcase to pack, emails to check, dishes to wash, laundry into the dryer, to shave – or not to shave, shower, dress, make plans for later), and eventually, to sit at this keyboard.
By then, that thought was gone. Poof. I could not recall it. I’d not sent a ‘note to self’ text, as I often do when trying to ensure I make a call or do an errand. It might be ‘P5’ to remind me which level my vehicle is on, or ‘call ___,’ Etc.
Where did that idea go?
The idea eventually returned – important perhaps, but not as compelling as I thought it might have been at first.
What does this teach?
Should we write those thoughts down, or let them circulate and come back to us if they continue to capture our imagination?

Reader feedback:
I’ve been trying to have conversations with eastern relatives with whom I fundamentally and vigorously disagree with about all things Covid. I am trying to have conversations that don’t result in alienation or violence, or both. It is extraordinarily difficult. And, the mayoral forum was, for me, equal parts informative and entertaining. It’s also the only forum I’m aware of that allowed me to hear and see 20 candidates. It was a brilliant initiative and I thank you for it, RH, Calgary, AB
