Wednesday, October 19, 2022 ~ column #7155

What kick-starts things?

Is it that item ‘next on our list,’ or is it more likely to be the next thought that pops into mind, the shooting-star-like idea that we see/feel approaching – one that flits into our consciousness and flits out again; the kind we’ll lose forever if we don’t grab it quickly and hold on tightly?

Or, we can jot it down before we get home, or turn a corner or our phone rings – because great ideas, inspiration to start something or change something does, sometimes, simply falls out of the sky, and if we don’t capture it, someone else will …

But can we examine it, review our success-triggering moments, to figure out the ingredients in the action/reaction of sight, sound and thought that make one potential starter into a non-starter vis-à-vis the next new fabulous world-changing thing?

This question has been on my mind lately, and the most straightforward answer I’ve come up with is, it depends.

It depends on the time of the day.

It depends on how I’m feeling about what I just finished, what I was planning to do next, whether I have a timed call or meeting on my calendar – it depends, it depends, it depends.

p.s. to readers who read yesterday’s column in the email format – my apologies; I loaded a draft and didn’t fix it by posting the final version in a timely fashion – which is embarrassing, especially in light of the subject matter of that column – the ‘edited/polished’ version on the website – click here for UNFORCED ERRORS
