TRICKY THINGS
Friday Oct. 26, 2018
Thinking and speaking are tricky things.
We are taught as children to think before we speak – think about what we want to say, review it in our mind to determine if something ought to be given voice, or not, and to be kind in our thoughts about how our statements might be heard and then consider whether we should be saying that at it all, to consider how it might be modified – and then speak.
If we ever truly ‘get that message’ it is only for childhood …
As adults this is rarely the case – because too often we are ‘thinking on our feet’, or rather thinking as we are speaking (sometimes better described as thinking with our feet in our mouths).
Too often our speaking even runs on ahead of our thinking. This is not instinct, or gut, it is simply stupefyingly ridiculous. As quick as computers are, we know the sequence of calculation is according to logical formulas that are tested and tested in software development. I’ve yet to meet a human brain owner who consistently gets that right in such logical fashion …
