ALL THE NEWS THAT FITS
Friday Oct. 28, 2016
What is news, how much is spin? Can we tell anymore?
Every word that comes out of every mouth – translated, positioned, multi-interpreted, or miss-interpreted – all before it reaches us?
Before NEWS hits our morning paper or in-box, it’s been folded, spindled and mutilated beyond recognition. I receive more in-mail than most people. I publish things and I need those sources of press releases, newsfeeds and PR-hyping comes with.
Reader feedback:
WORTH v. VALUE
Great observations Mark. A lot of the points you emphasize are the cause of a lot of problems for a lot of folks right now. Things are just things and stuff is just stuff. The investment we should all be focused on, to the degree that it fits in with the business of life, is “what is the footprint I’m leaving?” and I don’t mean carbon footprint. Was I the best spouse, parent, volunteer, leader, boss, employee, PERSON, that I could be to contribute to making the earth a bit better place than the way I found it? You make a good point on the leaving a legacy for future generations – these days it’s likely to be left in the hands of an auction house, trustee for the estate, or lawyers for liquidation into liquid funds. After it’s gone what’s left? Memories of the source of it. Are they good or are they just recollections of how hard the person had to work to achieve the stuff?, RA, Calgary, AB
