MIND AND MATTER
Thursday Oct. 6, 2016
Everybody wants to be remembered.
Everyone does. I don’t mean ‘recognized’ – meaning celebrated or have unusual attention focused on them – but they want to be recalled, remembered … and it really helps if you remember their name. Not just as a reciprocal thing in response to ‘them remembering your name’. That’s like ‘matching Christmas card lists’, a process of seeming to maintain a relationship where there wasn’t one in the first place.
However, if we want to build relationships that matter with people who matter – that begins by demonstrating that they matter. That their life matters. That something about them matters – and not keeping that to ourselves.
If people matter, tell them that they do and why they do.
If people are important to you, tell that they are and why they are.
There is no prescribed, ideal or perfect way to do that – but the way the works best is the one that is genuine. Yours if yours. Mine is mind. And it likely didn’t come from a self-help book unless you are the person who wrote it …
Old friends matter, family members matter. Some neighbours do. Some strangers do too …
Everybody matters to someone – but unless you are saintly, not EVERYONE can matter. Some, are worth running away from, but for those who do matter, or who you want to matter, the first step is yours. So is the second, the next and the last …
It is always up to you, if it matters.
Is it up to someone else as well? Sure, but only if it matters.
Do you matter to anyone?
Who matters to you?
