URGENCY IS CURRENCY

Instant acceleration, emails or text – detailed results/replies in minutes. So much happening. So fast.
Too often too fast, too hasty, too rushed.
Visit your pharmacy, you’ll be told your prescription will be ready in 15 minutes. So, we are inclined to stay in that store and shop. Is that delivering service with a sense of urgency, ‘professional best practices’ or ‘best merchandising practice’? Either way, that’s impressive.
Conversely, if you go to a shoe repair shop after your ‘due date’ you’ll likely be told, “come back tomorrow at 2PM”.
I realize filling a prescription is more important than half-soling old shoes, but really …
My dry-cleaner’s staff no longer ask when I want my cleaning, they promise it for 5PM the following day, which doesn’t make Fishman’s prices easier to swallow, but you have to admire that commitment to speed.
What about so many things we promise, or are promised – fast/urgent/important service for everyone, or is there ranking of priorities? Maslow would have fun analyzing this.
Urgency is part of everyday culture in some businesses. Not so much in many others. And what about our own lives – bombarded as we are by countless needs/wants being pushed our way, by those in our circle of characters having needs, their wants and wishes – how do we serve them? How do we serve ourselves?
True, time is money. It’s all triage, recalculating priorities on the fly …
Life has length, has value – divide all you have of one by the other, you’ll compute time’s value.
Urgency.
Currency.
Spend with care.
