PAUSE
Wednesday Sept. 23, 2015
Scarcely different. Like yesterday.
Earth’s pause.
Magical. Predictable. Massive. Impacts every creature, every economy, every person.
Today won’t change much – I’m talking about weather, seasons, leaves falling from trees, crops and gardens being harvested, seasonal celebrations of thanks, all things fall and colourful.
Today won’t change much – I’m talking about me, about you – collective us. We change little, age little, transform little one mode to another.
Revolving door, summer no more, fall strolled in and shut the door.
Amazing ourselves. Equinox magic. Gravity power + knowledge. Tilt. Wow. Astro-physicists’ delight. Now begins tilting the other way. Solstice – earth moving beneath our feet (like Carole King’s great tune) – changes things, shifts things. Spot-on with seasons, calendars and occasions.
We mark momentous occasions with cards, décor or wardrobe changes – but I’ve found the most important moments, shifts and powerful changes in my life bore no reference to ceremony or date, not prescribed, predicted or calendared.
Can our life change on a Tuesday, 5th of a month or mid-season?
We don’t get to say.
Doesn’t work out that way, can’t predict life that way.
Why then, attach such significance to days like today? Days that seem no different, yesterday or tomorrow, we dress the same, yellow leaves on the ground the same – we feel the same.
We don’t act that way. When something incredible happens, we know it. Remember it. Etched in memory (fine art, or Rorschach blot?). We know where we were, what was happening, how we felt and how the earth moved.
Like it was yesterday, whether it was yesterday. Or a lifetime ago.
We awe.
We ah…
Earth moved.
A little bit.

morning walk: 3C/37F, nippy – clear, windshields frosted (pumpkins too I expect), grass dewy and Gusta found something chewy. I’m feeling rested well, relaxed from a couple of exhausting days … looking forward to this spectacular day …
Reader feedback:
WE THE PEOPLE
“WE THE PEOPLE…” still stirs me. There is a compounding force that grows from the synergy of caring people. How do you create ‘team’ “in the whirl of gargantuan consumerism etc.”? You share the joy that can be found in ‘we the person’. The spirit of giving more than taking. The life experience of not yearning for more than contentment with self. People confuse life with money. People lose their minds in their favourite sports team where 6 wins out of 10 is good and 4 out of 10 times they spiral into ‘depression’ L. We are humanity together, JF, Calgary, AB
