RECEIVING
Tuesday Sept. 26, 2017
Deliver. They’ll sign. Get your receipt. Leave dry cleaning, repairs or hang your coat – get your claim check. Proof they’ve got it. Punch card – after five, get your next one free.
Give, go. Do. Get, receive, accept. Appreciate. We give/get lots. Words in passing. Things stick. No receipts. Mental notes. Doing things for people who matter, people we care about, people we transact with because ‘that’s what we do’, represents good habits.
Commitment, service, love – whatever giver or getter – doesn’t come with, or need, proof. We don’t feel short-changed or cheated. Don’t feel fairness or foulness, just appreciation.
When it isn’t reciprocated or acknowledged, that’s OK. Doesn’t have to be every time, all the time. But never, that’s different. That’s a special form of repudiation. Ends friendships, taints business connections, makes poor neighbours, inspires fences …
