TIME TO SWEAT YOUR SWOT
Thursday Sept. 12, 2019
Sorting our instincts, our reactions – our behaviors, to determine what is in our DNA vis-à-vis what comes from our experience is interesting self-reflection. But it doesn’t matter much, does it?
The key is that we are alert to both opportunities and threats simultaneously – because every day includes plenty of each.
We encounter these opportunities and threats using our strengths despite our weaknesses. The SWOT analysis we might construct in a workshop or team scrum needs to be a constant real-time function that doesn’t interfere with our focus on task-du-jour.
I often find myself muttering: “Why didn’t you do that sooner? … or different, or better”, as if I am a taller, older, and wiser version of myself looking down – criticizing myself as if I was a new hire, an apprentice, or a child in need of scolding.
But I don’t have someone standing over me, watching over me, or giving wise tutelage to me – I have only the conscience part.
That’s factory-installed, isn’t it?
Or did we learn that too?
Reader feedback:
Hi Mark. You asked if there was a word to meet the definition of ‘Energetic movement of the brain for the sake of mental fitness...’. Naturally I had to look, and having tablet in hand anyway to read your Musings, I pasted your definition in to my browser and Voila! “Neurobics” is a word that meets the criteria for exercise of the brain. Thanks for asking the question. I learned something new today, DM, Black Diamond, AB
