NOT ENOUGH FINGERS IN THE PIE
Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019
I was sorting (trying to) a mess.
Small scale mess, but clearly a case-study in doing good things badly.
Well-planned poorly communicated event, too few people not having fingers in the pie; meaning, lots of fingerprints on the project but lack of clarity whether anyone ever had a firm grip.
When we act alone managing things, we get to own our successes, our fumbles and our failures – but when we are involved in organizations, there is almost always grounds for confusion, conflict and disappointment.
At the root of these problems, in my experience, are two areas where we fail: communication and ‘agenda.’ We all need to have facts, but without knowing we are on the same page in terms of expectations, plans, and actions of everyone involved, a mess likely will result.
Good people with good ideas do not always produce a good result. Sometimes because of too much control, sometimes because of too little.
Good people who mean well does not always imply they are capable and qualified ….
