IGNITE YOURSELF

Sunday Sept. 18, 2016

Smolder, be ablaze … individuate yourself.

Effective careful listening – easy in conversation or groups, but when you are the only one in the room it’s pretty clear those voices are either in our own head or coming from imaginary friends – are we hearing only limitations?

Sometimes – voices of someone I miss, someone I’ve never met or someone I’ve lost. Re-engaging in some old conversation in search of different outcomes. Or having one we never had – but should have!

Or maybe it was someone talking to themselves, or to the world so everyone could listen.

… which leads to this: a borrowed idea is not stolen.

Can’t be arrested or charged or sued for borrowing an idea. Yes, you’ll find trouble poaching copyrights, plagiarizing advertising copy or infringing someone’s code, trademark or branding/logo images, but … an idea, once heard or read or put into the air – that belongs to everyone, doesn’t it?

Sure, we’ll all say ‘wow, I should have dreamt that’, but we didn’t.

We can use it can’t we?

Isn’t it a bit like that conversation we never had, brainstorming session when we tuned everyone out (but could have tuned in) because our mind was somewhere else? So …

Next best new thing – invention or simply a creative change in your life – doesn’t have to be original, it just needs to be new to you. For you. The world is a library of ideas to be checked-out. Borrowed thoughts. From something you read, something you heard, from a friend. Or competitor. Have that conversation – or at least imagine you did.

Imagine, ‘what if?’

I talk to myself. Sometimes.

Doesn’t everybody?

morning walk with Gusta:  9C/48F, light clouds, light breeze – paths leaf-littered in evidence the green leaf count is swiftly changing and dropping-off, literally, but nobody noticed – streets so quiet, traffic noise so distant … Gusta lagging-tagging along as we wandered the neighbourhood at my pace

Hi any chance you have a line on a free or very inexpensive used laptop or tablet. Have a gal here from Cuba learning English and she is in need. Nothing fancy just for note taking, etc. And no, it wasn't moi!, KK, Calgary, AB
