DID YOU FIND IT?

Did you find everything that you were looking for?

I get that question at the checkout every time, and most often, there are four shoppers with their buggies in line behind me, so even if I couldn’t find an item I was shopping for, it’s hardly the time, the place or the best way for the store to help me. The big-box books stores used to have computers you could search to find a book, but if the search said there were three copies of what I wanted in that store, it failed to tell me ‘where in that store’ I could find it. Now, there is a QR code on those computers inviting me to go shopping online, and no staff in sight!

I think the stores should give their heads a shake, ask customers how they want to be helped, and then help them …
But I digress; let me get to my point.

It’s similar, I believe, to ask myself, “How do I find what I am looking for in my life, in my work, and in my community?”

Lately, I’m taking fewer ‘rabbit hole’ trips down blind alleys and in pursuit of trivial things – and more so, I’m looking more deliberately for certain things. I still get sidetracked, often happily, exploring intriguing and/or dazzling for the moment grande schemes and ideas, but I return to the midpoint on my pendulum better than I can recall, ever. (I suspect my ADHD medication is contributing well to that, but a better understanding and focus get some credit too)

What am I looking for?

Not for treasure but for rewards.

Not for economy but for value.

Not for short-term joy but for long-term happiness.

For like-minded co-conspirators to help solve big problems nobody is trying to solve effectively.

What are you looking for?
