Standing up, standing proud, standing alone – perhaps to be an easy target, but standing for something, for someone, or to vouch for someone or a point of view – requires little physical effort but a more decisive internal action.
Anyone can stand up when everyone else is standing up.
To remain seated and silent when others stand and shout is a measure of protest, but not likely to be noticed or to move anyone’s dial …
But to stand up, whatever someone’s view – whether we think them right-headed or wrong, we need to acknowledge their feelings, their grit and their resilience.
