HAPPINESS DOES NOT SELF-EXPLAIN
Friday Sept. 30, 2016
We all know happiness.
Will dissecting help us create it?
We don’t pull it off a shelf, it doesn’t sprout from earth like germinating seeds in springtime.
Writing – poems, songs especially, don’t explain ‘how to create’, they simply prove how easy it is to observe, or trigger recall. We don’t need events – just need to remember those yesterday or long ago moments, then we are smiling whether anyone is there – especially if they aren’t.
There is no formula of universality on this. Martin Seligman and Brene Brown are right in their findings, but they have no magic formula for us to follow – but even just hearing their struggles-descriptions, their learning, we find that smile curl in the corner of our mouth or that belly-laugh rolls up uncontrollably. Shows up in mid-conversation, mid-lunch, mid-workout, mid-project, mid-thought …
