URGENT, IMPORTANT. WORTH IT
Friday Sept. 7, 2018
Morning arrives and I’m confronted by everything I didn’t finish yesterday, again …
And so, another day unfolds where I cannot start with what I planned to do today. Well, actually I can, but that means putting over the left-overs another day.
It’s a bit like leftovers in the fridge that get pushed aside, pushed back and eventually get obscured from view until fridge-clearing-soup-making day arrives – and then we find them. By then it is way too late to do anything but discard them …
Back to my work table dilemma. I take a little comfort in ‘getting better at this’, in knowing the backlog shrinketh …
Historically I’ve always had trouble beating back the backlog – I sometimes wonder if I’m a pack-rat, if I take too long (or ponder too long) on some things or simply can’t say NO to a good idea and just discard it as ‘something I won’t ever get to’. Or all of those. You see, things I don’t get to in a reasonable time-frame are important, but it seems I’ve calculated they aren’t important enough.
What is important enough for you, and are you doing it?
And those things you take on, itemize and prioritize, are they all top quadrant things about urgent and important? Probably not …
This old axiom plays over in my mind at times like this:
~ is it real, can I win and is it worth it?
