WE ARE NOT ALONE

Labour Day to New Year’s , that last third of every year = weird times.
Two-thirds done, we check annual budgets, check our production, check our bank accounts, “Yikes, we’re running outta time …”
Recognizing we’ve not done as expected of us by others is a metric we should have discarded long ago, yet throughout life, this dynamic recurs every time we tell our story or explain progress stalled: we haven’t done what WE expected of us.
If there are only four months remaining in this year, there is always next year.
If there are only four months remaining to complete a project, there is no time to waste.
If there are only four months remaining in our life, that is another story, is it not?
Expiry dates on milk cartons are easy – they say ‘best before,’ which implies they can be used past that date. Expiry dates on budgets, projects, calendars – tend to be firm but with some flexibility.
Expiry dates on people, not so easy.
We are always running out of time.
We can set the bar lower or higher – either way, we fall short of our expectations every time.
Truth told, we have the same time, every day – time is our great equalizer, separating panic from calm, wheat from chaff, etc. … add your own clichés if you wish.
We are not alone.
P.S. – Yesterday, we announced an event - October 1st at noon; Calgary Mayoral candidates forum – YOUR VOTE MATTERS – info/links to get your free-streaming ticket – YOUR VOTE MATTERS sponsored by THIRD ACTion Film Festival and Kerby Centre. Of 28 candidates so far, 21 of them confirmed they’ll participate.
Reader feedback:
Well Mark as the political climate seems to be as tumultuous as climate change I felt a need to revise the political acronyms to better identify their murky images. As we all know changing the name of a political stream doesn't change its direction.
Unctuous (unpleasantly flattering)
Cagey (cautious and uncommunicative)
Prevaricators (speak or act evasively or misleadingly)
Naïve (innocent - unaffected)
Demurring (always in the process of objecting)
Propitiation – (appeasing)
L I B – Laying in Bed
Thanks, JB, Calgary, AB
