MATTER MATTERS
Thursday Feb. 18, 2016
Everything on earth – including atmosphere we breathe, is matter. Empty space, is matter too. Space between molecular and atomic parts is still mysterious – the field. Every empty space is part of matter. Science teaches us that everything we see, touch and describe is matter.
Everyone we touch too.
But DOES it matter?
Are feelings matter? Are ideas matter? Our points of view – are they matter?
More important, do they matter?
So, that thing you are doing, that thought you are having, is it important? If not now, will it ever be important? Or that conversation? That email you are writing? Those instructions you are giving – the dreams you are having, the thoughts you are having … are they important?
Only our own judgement matters – but shouldn’t we ask ourselves sometimes, as we spin through revolving sameness doors in our days, and weeks, what is it we are doing and why, what our brain is spending time on and whether it is worthy of us? And whether we are worthy of it?
Someone, in jest, yesterday was putting themselves down for having not accomplished much of value in their life. My thought, my first thought, was … ‘you’re kidding, right?’
Then I considered he might not be kidding – that he actually takes that dim view of his own value. That took me back to remembering some of my own low points, and wanting to show him better understanding.
Isn’t that what we all want? Be kinder. Be more thoughtful. Be more understanding. Recognize that NOT EVERY THING matters …
But, everyone matters.
Life is simple.
Just focus on matters and matter that matter.

I am aware of your estranged daughter from reading musings. I didn't have children, but I (obviously) have felt the pain of other grief and hope you recover from this grief as soon as possible (if you haven't already). LH - Lethbridge, AB
