PRETTY GOOD
Wednesday Jan. 7, 2015

Easy.

To feel less worthy, less complete, less useful when we aren’t doing good things.

If I do a good deed, I feel good.

If I help someone, I feel good.

If I solve a problem or complete a transaction for a client – I feel good, feel worthy, feel valuable.

In between times, on days when I don’t do any of that, am I less worthy?

When we aren’t doing our awesome-best good works, we aren’t bad – just idle.

Not unworthy – just between things.

I look around, especially in fearful times (like now) so many good people are fearful.

Good, capable people aren’t feeling so capable, aren’t feeling as valued.

Not being flat-out busy and dizzyingly successful isn’t a negative.

We are, collectively, our harshest critic, our worst judge and jury – and we don’t belong in some emotionless prison of incompetence because we didn’t slay a dragon single-handedly yesterday.

Speaking of which, I had a pretty good yesterday.

I think I’ll have a pretty good today too.

morning walk:  -14C (wind chill is -24C)/7F, early/dark, wind chill is an interesting performance-enhancing motivator … it was a fast walk/trot, Gusta got the job done .. then home

Reader feedback:

MEANINGFUL
And of course, change brings excitement for something new. I LOVE change and so, in my career, I always embraced start-up projects. Now that I am retired, I am involved in all sorts of activities that are new and exciting- playing a clarinet (never played a windwood before) in a New Ventures Band and Pickleball (I understand it is very popular in the US). I wonder what will present itself to me for 2015!!, CG, Cobourg, ON

Not sure about the scorched earth portion but without change (also perhaps - adaptation, evolution, correction), there is stagnation, mediocrity, status quo, failure. Very timely column in its simplicity and message. Hopefully your readers can use it as they review resolutions and goals for this year. I am! Cheers, RA, Calgary, AB

Nice. Love it!, LG, Calgary, AB

Happy New Year to you! Amazing….. loved this mornings “muse” So true! All the best in 2015!, SS, Red Deer, AB
