MARK'S SPEAKING TIPS

BREVITY TODAY

Sunday, July 10, 2022

Note to self, not to sit on the shelf.

Do you do that too?

I write notes to myself, or a ‘note to file’ or write a sentence in someone’s profile in my database – because it’s impossible to keep everything in my head.

But too often, those notes get put somewhere I forget about, or I’ve stuffed them in a paper or electronic file that I misplace, or its electronic versions get lodged in that great maw of the hard drive without the correct label; and, who looks through their hard drive just for fun to find lost items?

I had some great fun yesterday, enjoyed DAY 2 on my new drug, and a productive day, the kind anyone likes; great sleep, weight down a tick, and blood pressure on target!

And a visit to the Stampede – as always, hard to describe unless you’ve been to one – to absorb some atmosphere, eat dodgy midway food, buy a ticket on the dream home lottery and check out the art at the Western Oasis art showcase. If you’ve never been, check it out – you won’t be sorry. Also, I recommend you check out the outstanding local and western artists – in particular, Neepin Auger (daughter of my late friend and great artist Dale Auger) and Paul van Ginkel (friend). I told them both I would include these links. I invite you to check them out; their collections are both standouts of the show. Neepin was named the best new artist at this year’s Stampede. Her work is distinctive, and her own, and in many ways reminiscent of her father’s style – and I’m sure Dale would be so proud.

They call it an oasis with good reason – quiet, cool/comfortable, a respite from the cacophony of noise and robust activity on the midway and at the rodeo.

p.s. – many thanks to those who called or wrote kind words about yesterday’s column – it’s a journey of many steps, but just out of the gate, it’s all good news so far … tic toc

DIAGNOSIS

As always Mark, thanks for your transparency. Blessings on your new journey!  As usual, YOU’VE GOT THIS!, BE, Calgary, AB

We are all rooting for your increased comfort with yourself as you discover a far easier way to think, organize your thoughts and experience your energy well…yeah for you!’ I want you to tell us ‘how you are’!!, SF, Lethbridge, AB

Just continue the way you’ve always been. You’re just fine the way you are, Mark.  ADD and ADHD treatment up to a few years ago, was drugs. And the long-term effects are still being discovered. I consider my own ADHD to be a gift - I get more done at my age than most! Take care, SB, Calgary, AB
