TOUGH SELL
Wednesday, July 21, 2021
Strategy and tactics are complex.
When we try to get someone else to do what we want them to do, like tactics we employ to get a child to do something is, at its best, amateur psychology.
Trying to get an adult counterparty to comply with our wishes is bizarrely more difficult – as if we hadn’t learned already how difficult it is to impose our will upon anyone.
Tougher still, to accept this reality, that’s the most challenging sell of all, is to get ourselves to do something.
From major projects to minor habit changes, we resist every time.
Logic and psychology don’t seem to apply. Fixing what needs fixing is futile.
I wrestle in writing about this – questioning whether this is a struggle without a solution – and I wonder, do others have the same problem?
Reader feedback:
Hi Mark, can definitely relate to your Musings today … moving after 20 years, the in box has become waaay too permanent but nothing compared to the goodies I’d saved in my desk drawers. Still have boxes marked ‘NB office desk’ which might gather dust before being re-opened. But hey, It’ll be an adventure and they will be full of surprises. Not missing the commotion of the big city in Three Hills. Three weeks without traffic lights feels like Trudeau just lost the next election! Stay safe, NB, Three Hills, AB
When you’re all done, I have a basement from hell that requires serious attention. Are you for hire? LOLOL, BR, Calgary, AB
