Mondays with a project to work on have helped/hurt my work rhythm from time to time.
Because most Mondays are head-down days by choice – I work on a weekly publishing project: FACILITYCalgary, that goes out to the world every Tuesday morning. Sometimes interrupted by a bike ride or long walk if I’m on track with work serves to rest my mind and get my body out of the chair.
When Monday is a holiday, the phone doesn’t ring, and incoming email volume dwindles. It gives a peculiar pace to my day, almost like writing interwoven with household chores – like being home while on vacation.
We seem to need this holiday – that the birthday of an old queen (May 24th) would be such a milestone for us all to observe, particularly for planting gardens and cleaning up years – it’s a holiday for all to enjoy, especially for those who stay home, which most of us do.
While many are out getting their cottages open, freezing on the first camping trip of the year, one must wonder if old Queen Victoria imagined so many things being done long after her death in her name. A city, an architectural style, and a holiday weekend – Victoria Day. She reigned for 63 years, 216 days. Her descendant (see the chart) Elizabeth, now 96, is at 70 years, 106 days so far – but still short of the record (Louis XIV of France reigned 72 yrs, 110 days).
