DIVIDING LINE

Sunday Oct. 22, 2017

Does value flow from conformity?

Contribute to society, provide for family, be part of community?

Yes, of course, important for most of us. Like every functionary critter up/down our food-chain line, that’s our purpose. Do that, die happy.

Peggy Lee sang ‘Is that all there is?’ ~ maybe, that’s all folks.

Most of us, for a few thousand years, especially in the last hundred, became convinced there is more to life than food-chain hierarchy evolved for reproduction and nurturing young.

There is greater purpose.

Myth, or real?

For now, let’s agree it is real. Sure, debate could me fun, but for today let’s just think REAL. Think purpose, value, intent.

Is there a rule book, should there be? Religious types say, ‘it is written’. But looking for fact or theory that resonates – answers not found by Frankl, by Sartre, by Socrates. Someone always asking, but are those the best questions?

What questions are you asking?

Will their answer give you meaning in life?

Or give your life meaning?

My sense is no. Not that we should give up looking, asking, seeking deeper truths, understanding each other better – surely, room for improvement. Meaning we feel in life, in our lives, isn’t external.

Doesn’t come from books, ancient scrolls or internet chatter – doesn’t come from anyone or from any school of thought or dogma.

Meaning of life comes from within.

Mine, in me.

Yours, within you.

Who do I like best?

Those who have found meaning and purpose in their lives.

Who do I like less?

Those who don’t try, or care, or do.

Seems to be my dividing line …

What is yours?

FLOCKLESS

Timely reminders this morning. The gift of time and opportunity has been given, and I am boldly going. My flock is that of JLS (Johnathan Livingstone Seagull) , always striving, hopefully one day mentoring.., JB, Calgary, AB
