WANT, NEED AND DESIRE DO NOT EQUAL RESULTS
Sunday July 7, 2019
I wrote recently about the issue of whether or not greed is good.
I wondered what arguments are sound, when you flesh them out, for vs. against, whether greed is good vs. greed is bad. Some would argue that greed is fuel for the entrepreneurial engine of innovation.
One could also argue that altruism, for the greater good, is also good fuel.
But we all want, whether money or things, right?
An economist would say, “show me the results”.
An artist (or writer) might say, “show me the passion”.
A politician might say, “show me some job creation”.
A futurist might say, “show me meaningful change”.
I child might say, “I want his toys”.
A cured person might say, “I love my life”.
A doctor might ask, “what’s the point if you don’t change your diet?”
Reader feedback:
Hi Mark, Interesting – other viewpoints. Do they really matter? Should we really care? Perhaps only as discussion points, reasons to communicate and understand. Reading a book called Braving the Wilderness by Brene Brown. In there she talks about how it’s important that before we shut down and “agree to disagree” we should at least try to understand why. Be open-minded and listen to understand! I also understand the “luxury” of picking which 60 hours a week you wish to work. (insert giggle) Have a great day and keep on “musing”, HC, Sherwood Park, AB
Time is like a river, constantly flowing, and you can’t step in to the same part of it more than once. What you can do is let it wash around you, enjoy the freshness that each wavelet brings, and remember what has already passed. The older we get the more there is to remember, at least until that time of life when we start to forget. We should try to take joy out of those memories while we still have them and make the grieving process bittersweet. Much better to celebrate lives that have passed as breaks in the clouds rather than focus on the clouds themselves, DM, Ladysmith, BC
